We are thrilled to welcome Alvaro M. Garavito, EMT-P, Executive Director of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC), as our guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Wilton meeting next Wednesday, January 28!

Serving our community since 1976, WVAC provides 24-hour emergency medical care, 365 days a year, responding to more than 1,800 calls annually. Staffed by a dedicated team of certified EMTs, EMRs, and paramedics, WVAC plays a vital role in keeping Wilton safe—often during life’s most critical moments. Their work is fueled by compassion, commitment, and an incredible spirit of volunteerism.

We are excited to hear from Alvaro about the lifesaving services WVAC provides, the people behind the scenes who make it all possible, and the incredible impact this organization has on our town every single day. This promises to be an informative, inspiring, and meaningful presentation that highlights what community service truly looks like in action.

I am a passionate, bilingual Paramedic with 27 years of experience in Emergency Medical
Services. I joined the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps as Executive Director on August 11,

  1. Prior to this role, I served as Operations Manager for Westchester EMS in Mount Kisco,
    NY. I currently continue to serve as a part-time Paramedic with Westchester EMS, the Brewster
    Fire Department, and Norwalk Hospital.
    For the first 20 years of my career, I worked as a New York City Paramedic with St. Vincent’s
    Hospital in Lower Manhattan and with New York Presbyterian’s Neonatal Critical Care
    Department.
    I reside in Redding, CT, with my wife, Danielle, and our two children—our son “Little Al,” 11,
    our daughter Samantha, 14—and our English Golden Retriever, Noah. My wife and I are both
    pre-hospital providers who share a passion for caring for the sick and injured.
    My vision for the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps is to provide state-of-the-art patient care
    using the most advanced technology available. I aim to lead our organization to state and
    national recognition while fostering a strong, collaborative relationship with our community and
    our public safety partners, including Wilton CERT, the Wilton Fire Department, the Wilton
    Police Department, and the Wilton Town Government.
    In my spare time, I enjoy watching and coaching travel baseball and softball, fishing, golfing,
    and riding ATVs with my family.

    Fun Facts:
    Being a stable hand in back country, Greenwich got me into EMS.
    My mom drove me to my very first ambulance call when I was just 14 years old.
    I was a singing waiter and Manero’s Restaurant in Greenwich for 15 years before they closed in
    2006.
