William Tong is the 25th Attorney General of Connecticut, first elected in 2019 and now serving his second term. A national leader in major lawsuits, he has led efforts to hold opioid manufacturers, Big Tech, and robocall scammers accountable; protect consumer data; lower energy and healthcare costs; and defend civil rights, including reproductive freedom, gun safety, and climate action.
Tong was the first Asian American elected to state office in Connecticut and the first Chinese American Attorney General in the U.S. A former litigator and longtime State Representative, he authored key legislation on gun and domestic violence. He helped resolve landmark state lawsuits including Sheff v. O’Neill and DCF oversight reforms.
Raised in the Hartford area by immigrant small business owners, Tong lives in Stamford with his wife Elizabeth and their three children. He is an avid fly fisher, cook, and amateur carpenter.
