Check Presentation – Jan 28th 2026

Check Presentation Event Statement
January 28, 2026

On January 28, 2026, Mary Anne Franco, Chair of the Wilton Kiwanis Contributions Committee, proudly presented a $25,000 donation on behalf of the Wilton Kiwanis Club, its Board, and its membership to Alvaro Garavito, Executive Director of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC).

The contribution will support the construction of WVAC’s new permanent headquarters on Route 7 in Wilton, an important milestone that will strengthen emergency medical services for the community for generations to come. The majority of the funds were raised through the 2025 Kiwanis Pumpkin Sale, a signature community event made even more special by the active participation of WVAC members, who not only staffed the Pumpkin Patch alongside Kiwanis volunteers but also brought an ambulance for the public to explore and learn from.

During the presentation, Ms. Franco reflected on the long-standing partnership between Kiwanis and the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, noting that Kiwanis purchased Wilton’s first ambulance in 1954 — a refurbished Packard with minimal medical equipment. Since then, both Wilton and its emergency services have evolved tremendously. Today, the town is fortunate to be served by highly trained EMTs, modern ambulances, and state-of-the-art medical equipment that help residents through accidents, illness, and life’s unexpected emergencies.

The Wilton Kiwanis Club expressed its deep gratitude to Alvaro Garavito and the entire Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to keeping the community safe. The Club wishes WVAC continued success as it moves forward with its new facility and ongoing mission of service.

This meaningful contribution reflects Kiwanis’ enduring commitment to supporting organizations that make Wilton a safer, stronger, and better place to live and work.
