The Kiwanis Club of Wilton is honored to welcome one of our newest members, Bob Wirz, as our featured guest speaker. Bob was officially inducted into our club on November 12, 2025, and from the very beginning, it was clear he brought an extraordinary depth of experience, perspective, and storytelling to our Kiwanis family.
With a remarkable career spanning sports broadcasting, marketing, and Major League Baseball public relations, Bob has lived a life shaped by communication, leadership, and a deep love of the game. He served as a chief spokesman for Major League Baseball Commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth, worked with the Kansas City Royals, and later founded Wirz & Associates, building a distinguished career in sports marketing and media.
From his roots in small-town Nebraska to working on the national stage, Bob’s journey is filled with unforgettable experiences, insights, and heart. He is also the author of The Passion of Baseball and My Nebraska, heartfelt reflections on sports, life, and home. We’re really excited to hear what Bob has to share with us today and to learn more about the experiences that shaped his incredible career.
We are proud to call Bob a Kiwanian and even more excited to hear his story.

Bob Wirz is a distinguished journalist, public relations executive, and sports communications leader whose career has spanned more than five decades across media, professional baseball, and strategic communications.
A native of Halsey, Nebraska, Bob began his career in journalism, calling games for KHAS radio in Hastings while still a student. Even early on, his instinct for storytelling stood out. One of his first major interviews came when he spoke with Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, after the boxer’s bus made an impromptu lunch stop in Nebraska. This moment foreshadowed Bob’s lifelong connection to history making figures and unforgettable stories.
Bob went on to report for The Wichita Eagle and The Denver Post before landing his first job in professional baseball in 1967 as Public Relations Director for the Denver Bears of the Pacific Coast League. In 1969, he joined the Kansas City Royals as Public Relations Director, a role he held through 1974 during the team’s formative years.
From 1974 to 1985, Bob served as Director of Information for Major League Baseball, acting as chief spokesman for Commissioners Bowie Kuhn and Peter Ueberroth. In this high profile position, he became one of the most trusted voices in the sport, managing media relations at the highest level and helping shape how baseball was presented to the world.
Following his tenure with Major League Baseball, Bob founded his own firm, Wirz and Associates, where he built a successful career in sports marketing, media relations, and public affairs consulting.
Bob is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Lincoln, Class of 1959. He has lived and worked in Hastings and Lincoln, Nebraska, Wichita, Kansas, Denver, Colorado, and Connecticut, where he resides today.
In 2017, he was inducted into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame, recognizing his lasting contributions to the game.
In later years, Bob turned his passion for storytelling into authorship. Through his writing, Bob continues to remind readers that while careers may take us far, our roots never truly leave us.
