Under sunny skies and mild temperatures, the Wilton Kiwanis Club kicked off its 11th annual Great Pumpkin Sale at the Wilton Historical Society(224 Danbury Rd). last week. Now underway, the sale features a colorful selection of pumpkins, exotic gourds, autumn flowers and decorative corn, with all proceeds benefiting the dedicated volunteers of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC).
“We started a week early this year, and we are very excited by the results,” Wilton Kiwanis Club Pumpkin Sale ChairpersonPaul Hannah said. “WVAC volunteers are truly the unsung heroes in our town. They respond to all of Wilton’s 911 calls while serving 12-hour shifts from a modest home base located just behind Town Hall. We are eager to support them and the important work they do for our community in every way we can.”
WVAC volunteer Libby Nagle said families have an extra exciting reason to visit the Pumpkin Sale on the weekends, promising an ambulance will be on site. “As long as we don’t have an emergency call, we plan to be on-site. Children and parents are welcomed to take a peek inside,” Nagle said. “We wish we still had our first ambulance from 1975 so everyone could see how far we have come. But I think we sold it to the producers of Ghostbusters in 1982,” she joked.
