About: Gerald Berrafati
Gerald Berrafati, Trout Unlimited staff and coordinator for the local Mianus Chapter, will present on several major projects designed to restore historic fish passage and improve habitat on the Norwalk River in Wilton.
Over the last few years, the Norwalk River has undergone a dramatic transformation starting with the removal of the Flock Processing Dam in South Norwalk, the Dana Dam in Wilton this past fall, and over two miles of completed major habitat restoration work. Rare species of several concern like Alewife, Blueback Herring, and native Sea Lamprey are returning to the Norwalk River for the first time in over 120 years as a direct result of the incredible work done by various groups in Wilton’s conservation community. However, there is still more work to be done. Find out what’s next in store for the Norwalk River!
A life-long Wilton resident, Gerald first got involved with the Mianus Chapter as an intern at 15 and became the organization’s first full time staff person shortly after graduating from College of the Holy Cross in 2020. The Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited is a non-profit organization of over 5,000 members and supporters dedicated to preserving, protecting and restoring our local rivers and streams in lower Fairfield County.
